2019 ITTF Challenge Plus Nigeria Open inspire young siblings

AS action served off in the 2019 International Table tennis Federation (ITTF) Challenge Plus Open at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Mustapha Mustapha and Musa Mustapha says participating in the competition has honed their skills and is an inspiration to attain great heights.

Mustapha and Musa, who are siblings, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that it was their second time to feature in the challenge which began in 2013.

Eleven-year-old Mustapha said that his participation in the last edition helped to improve his style of play, adding that he hoped to gain more knowledge in this edition.

“I gained a lot when I participated last year and that was the first time my brother and I will feature in any international competition.

“I have come to learn more this year and strongly believe it will be a great advantage for me as I develop my skill in the sport,” the Abuja-based athlete said.

In the same vein, Musa, told NAN that his participation last year in the men’s event of the competition was a major eye opener for him.

The J.S.S. One student of Al-Falzun Academy in Abuja, said he was grateful to his parent for their support for their ambition to grow in the sport by ensuring their participation in the just-upgraded challenge.

“It is good to be back here for this competition, I achieved a lot when I participated last year.

“My backhand and forehand strokes is stronger now compared to when I started playing few years ago, and I know this year will not be an exception,” the 10-year-old player said.

NAN reports that athletes from 32 countries are taking part in the completion that will end on Aug. 12 (NAN)
