2019 Lagos WPP Invitational Championships: Participants hail organisers for hitch-free event

PARTICIPANTS at the 2019 Lagos World Para Powerlifting (WPP) Invitational Championships on Wednesday commended Nigeria for staging a hitch free competition.

The participants told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the venue of the competition in Lagos, that it was well coordinated by the host.

Tahiru Haruna, a 95kg Ghanian powerlifter said: “I am highly impressed with everything here; the host nation did a very thorough job by putting good logistics in place.

“I strongly believe they can host major tournaments with what they have done with this competition.”

An Ivorian athlete, Michelle Kouadio praised the Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation for doing the needful to make the championships a world class event.

“This is great competition put together by Nigeria, the venue, hospitality and logistics are commendable.

“I have enjoyed my stay and I will want to come for another competition in Nigeria,” the bronze medalist in the women up to 41kg said.

Also, Esther Nworgu, who won her first international medal for the country at the championships, hailed the Queen Uboh-led board of the federation and the sponsors for their efforts in staging the event.

“I am proud to be a Nigerian; other participants from other countries are saying good things about this competition.

“Their expression shows that Nigeria has done well in organising this event,” the silver medalist at the 2018 National Sports Festival said.

NAN reports that Nigeria has so far won 19 gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals at the championships that will end on Wednesday. (NAN)
