Asaba 2018: Athletes commend Nigerians for hospitality

SOME members of the various contingent to the ongoing 2018 Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba have commended the hospitality extended to them by Nigerians, saying “Nigerians are very good people”.

The South African 100m silver medalist in the women’s category, Rikennete Steenkamp, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Asaba that though the delegation encountered some challenges on arrival in Nigeria, she would still rate Nigerians as good people.

“Nigerians are good people, very friendly and even the volunteers are also very helpful, always willing to assist,’’ she said.

Steenkamp commended the hospitality industry in Delta, adding that accommodation was very good and comfortable.

On the competition, she told NAN that the South African Team’s performance so far was good, adding,“I am very hopeful that South Africa will win the championships.”

Another South African athletes, Busisine Mokwena, noted that the contingent encountered some challenges in Lagos on arrival in Nigeria and a little bit of difficulty in getting accreditation.

“But the hospitality we are getting from Nigerians is so wonderful. They know how to welcome visitors,” Mokwena said.

In the same vein, Robert Ransak from from Tunisia, who commended Nigerians for their hospitality, said: “I must say I am enjoying the good hospitality of the people of Nigeria.

“I am also enjoying the good food and I hope to come back some other time apart from participating in sports.’’

On his experience in Asaba, a member of the Moroccan contingent, Mustafa Smaili said, “Nigeria is a great place to be and their hospitality is perfect and I hope to visit again if given the opportunity.”

Smaili said that his country was doing well in the championships and expressed optimistism that his country was sure of winning some medals. (NAN)
