THE Nigeria Cerebral Palsy (CP) Football Team said that it would start preparations for  the 2020 International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) Nation’s Championship with a proposed friendly match with Team Ghana.

The national coach of Nigeria’s CP team, Gbenga Dosumu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos  on Thursday that the team would depart for Ghana on  Nov. 29 for the match scheduled for Nov. 30 in Accra.

Dosumu said that the participation in the world cup was automatic for CP football nations but that they  would need to play international friendly matches.

He said that winnings from such friendlies would attract points for ranking for teams.

“Our activities are  coming into the limelight because CP world cup is holding next year.

“The  build-up  matches are fundamental and this is the brain behind the proposed  international friendly match  that Team Nigeria will be playing with Team Ghana.

“The CP world cup is open to all nations.

“but the IFCPF, which is the organisers of the fiesta,  is mindful of friendly matches played and winnings recorded  by teams which are used for their rankings,” he said.

He added that the  forthcoming friendly match would be an exposure ground and platform for the national Seven-Aside team members  to test their skills and abilities based on their  ongoing  training.

“The proposed friendly match between the Team  Nigeria   and  Team  Ghana is going to be part of our buildup programmes.

” It will also be an exposure of our footballers to the world cup and  a platform to evaluate their technical abilities,” he said.

According to him,  the IFCPF Nations Championship organised world cup tournament will hold in Santa Cugat, Catalonia, Spain, from May 13 to May 23.

NAN reports that CP football is a  match with seven-aside players on the field at a time with some modifications in rules, teams’ compositions and size of play turf with no offside rules.
