JOSEPH Udedi, Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, says his Ministry is partnering Zipp Sports Limited to organise the first International Coal City Marathon in the state.

Udedi made this known in Enugu on Tuesday through a statement signed by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Dan Onwuegbuna,.
The commissioner said the state Executive Council, on July 17, gave an approval to Zipp Sports to partner the ministry to organise a befitting first international marathon in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the marathon has been scheduled for Nov. 24.

According to him, the race will commence at Michael Okpara Square to the State Assembly, Bissala Road, New Haven Junction and on to Bush Bar Junction.
Accordingly, it will continue to Goshen Roundabout, Toscana Junction, WAEC, Monkey Junction, ESBS, NTA/Library, College Road, Kenyatta, Zik Avenue and climax at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Ogui Road.

The commissioner said that several corporate organisations had also shown interest to collaborate in the event.

“Several organisations have shown interest to collaborate with us, but we have partnered with Zipp Sports and no other organisation.

“More than 1500 athletes have registered to participate in the marathon as 300 foreign athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya and Cameroun are being expected.
Udedi urged members of the public to discountenance any other person or group of persons parading themselves as being given the approval to organise marathon in Enugu State.
