THE Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, on Tuesday advised the new staff of the Ministry to shun corruption and make integrity and transparency the cardinal values of their career.

Dalung gave the advice at an induction course organised by the Ministry of Sports for new officers of the ministry in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

According to him, you are at the formative stage of your career in the civil service.

“Therefore, acquisition of essential knowledge and skills that has to do with the operations of the service will help you to find your bearing in the system.

“It will also help to put you in good stand to contribute your own quota to the development of your fatherland,’’ he said.

Dalung said that being a civil servant implies preparedness to make personal sacrifices for the public good and the overall soci-economic progress of the country.

“As you begin your journey in the Federal Civil Service, you must realise that your careers must be built on an ethical foundation.

“The weakening of the ethical foundation of the public service and the attendant worsening of cases of corruption in Ministries, Departmenta and Agencies (MDAs) prompted the war against corruption which the present administration is prosecuting with all the seriousness it deserves.

“I enjoin you therefore, to shun corruption and make integrity, transparency the cardinal values of your career,’’ he said.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Olusade Adesola, said the induction course was designed to give the staff a foundation and the requisite knowledge to start on and to build individual careers.

He said the induction training was in line with established policies of Federal Civil Service Commission.

“During the training, you will be introduced to the core functions of the civil service, principles, core values, ethics and leadership skills, which are essential for the attainment of excellence in all your future careers,’’ he said.

Ezeji Ugonna, one of the new staff, said the course would help him to improve on his duties.

He said that the induction course had repositioned him for better service delivery and commended the ministry for the course. (NAN)
