RICHMAN Ndakwe, Coordinator of 2018 Gov. Seriake Dickson Football Competition, on Friday advised youths in the state to shun cultism and other social vices, capable of destroying their future.

Ndakwe, who is also the Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to the Governor, gave the advice while addressing journalists in Yenagoa, said cultism could render them unproductive.

He called on youths to take advantage of sports programmes, especially the Dickson’s Football Competition, tagged, “The Restoration Cup 2018.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that N11 million prize money is set aside for winning in the competition, fixed to kick-off at the end of March.

The winners get N5 million for the best team, N3 million for the second best team, while the third best team will smile home with N2 million.

Other consolation prizes include; N500,000 for the fourth best team, N200,000 for the best behaved team, N100,000 each for the best goalkeeper, highest goal scorer, and of course, the most valuable player.

According to Ndakwe, apart from winning prizes, football is one of the games to bring peace and harmony among people in any society.

“The coordinator called on the Caretaker Chairmen of the eight local government areas in the state to ensure that clubs in their communities register and participate in the tournament.

“This year’s edition is community-based and the preliminary stages will be played at the various communities in the local government areas of the state.

“The state government is doing everything possible to ensure the tournament is better organised than the 2015 edition.

‘’I must say that some critical stakeholders in the industry have been mobilised to ensure the success of this edition,” he said. (NAN)
