GOV. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has urged Kano Pillars Football Club fans to be well behaved as their team host Asante Kotoko of Ghana on Saturday.

The Nigerian Cup champions take on the Ghanaian side in the first leg game of their 2019/2020 CAF Champions League pairing at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Abba Anwar, Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, disclosed in a statement that the governor made the call during an inspection visit to the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Anwar said Ganduje’s visit was to ascertain the level of renovation work done at the stadium ahead of the match.‎

“While I congratulate the club for winning the 2019 Aiteo Cup, I also urge the players to put in more efforts and perform wonderfully well in the continental championship.

“But I also urge Kano Pillars supporters to continue with their good works and shun violence of any form.‎

“Drum support for us, but don’t be violent. Be of good discipline and show maturity in all our games both in and outside the stadium.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kano Pillars fans had on July 28 created a state of pandemonium at Kaduna’s Ahmadu Bello Stadium and its environs.

This was done while celebrating their team’s victory.

The governor added that he was inviting Kano people to come out en mass to support the state’s team.

“Let us give them a morale-booster, similar to what we gave them during the Aiteo Cup finals at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna,” he pleaded.‎

Ganduje further said the fans’ disposition to being of good behaviour would pave the way for another round of victory in the continental competition.

“We are expecting the African title to also come to our dear state of Kano, through our loving Kano Pillars Football Club,’’ he said.‎

NAN reports that the statement listed areas undergoing massive renovation in the stadium to include the pitch, two dressing rooms, VIP Stand and Medical Centre.

Others are the Mixed Zone, the communication gadgets for improving the security network, among others.

‎It went further to quote Ganduje as promising to always support Pillars, while he also restated his administration’s commitment to the development of the club and other sports activities. (NAN)
