The Enugu State contingent to the forthcoming National Grassroots Sports Festival will depart on Wednesday for Abuja, the state government has said.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Joseph Udedi, made the disclosure when he visited the contingent at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Monday.

According to him, the contingent is made up of five boxers, 18 footballers and 11 athletes.

The commissioner said that Enugu would compete in football, boxing and track and field events.

“In track and field events, we will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m, while the girls will take part in the Shot Put.

“We are going to the festival with the sports we feel that we have advantage over others and those are the three events we have in our programme,’’ he said.

Udedi urged the contingent to win laurels, especially gold for the state at the festival.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the festival will begin on April 19 in Abuja. (NAN)
