IJEOMA Iheriobiem, a successful participant in the recently held International Powerlifting technical officials course held in Nigeria, says she has cast the first milestone in her officiating career with the feat.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Iheriobiem is among five successful participants out of 15 officials from across Africa that took part in the workshop held in January in Lagos.

The workshop centred on Paralympic Movement, ethics, fair play, athletes welfare/wellbeing heralded the 2019 International Lagos Para Powerlifting Competition hosted by Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation (NPPF) and attended by seven African countries.

Iheriobiem told NAN that she was happy when Nigeria was given the hosting right of the competition as such world event was usually accompanied by a technical workshop for officials.

“I have always desired to participate in this workshop because its an international class workshop that creates an enabling environment for officials to increase their profile in the sport.

“So, I see it as a dream come true and opportunity on my door step to upgrade myself and commit my best just to scale through and God helped me to pass.

“I am happy today that I made it because 15 of us participated in the workshop after which the educators conducted examinations for us and only five of us were successful.

“My vision of officiating in international competition has started with this great achievement though it was a tough session but its has fortified me for the tasks ahead,” she said.

The former athletes added that she was given a certificate for a successful performance, endorsed by the International Paralympics Committee (IPC) organisers of the event.

She also expressed gratitude to the NPPF for a good hosting and making the environment within her reach, adding that it saved her the financial involvement in travelling abroad for the workshop.

“At least, I have my certificate today to show for my successful performance in the first stage of the three stages of the IPC level officiating workshops which is a great achievement,” she added.

According to her, some successful officials in previous workshops were invited by the IPC to officiate in the just-concluded Lagos International Powerlifting Competition out of which had some Nigeria officials. (NAN)
