Lagos Media Marathon Organising Committee solicits government’s support

Members of the Organising Committee for the Lagos Media Marathon scheduled for May 1, on Wednesday to seek the support of the the state government in ensuring that the event was a successful.

The committee which visited the Chairman of the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Kweku Tandoh, requested for permission from the Lagos State Government to use the already mapped out route for the Media Marathon.

The committee, led by its Chairman, Tony Ubani, and the Chairman, Lagos Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Debo Oshundun, had other members including Adekunle Salami, Tosin Omoniyi and Tunde Eludini.

They said that the route was expected to take runners from Anthony Oke opposite TREM to Oshodi, Charity through the new ten-lane international airport expressway to Ikeja Bus Terminus.

The committee also sought for other assistance from the Lagos State Government in the area of logistics, security and general welfare.

“We are very grateful to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for all that he has done for sports during the last four years; especially the revival he has brought to long-distance running in Nigeria.

“The Media Marathon is one of the things we are planning to use to say a big thank you to our amiable governor.

“Our plan for the Media Marathon is to also use it to further showcase the massive developmental projects that Ambode has done in Lagos, ” its chairman, Ubani said in a statement.

Ubani said that it was necessary for journalists and indeed, the public to give a closer look at their health and fitness.

The statement noted that Tandoh assured the committee members that he would pass their letter to the governor of Lagos state.

It said that the 10km and 5km race was open to all journalists and other members of the media family in public relations, advertising, others in the allied industry and students.

It added that members of the public were also free to register for the race.

It said that participants in the race would pay a registration fee of N2,500 and those interested in the 5km will pay N2,000, and exempted stakeholders in the media and communications as well as students from paying registration fee. (NAN)
