A Civil Society Organisation, The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria, on Friday urged the Federal Government to prioritise investment in the sport and entertainment sectors to promote national growth.

Segun Aina, the Executive Vice President of JCI in-charge of the Northeast Zone, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Aina said investment in sports and entertainment would help realise the potential of projecting Nigeria’s image globally which were inherent in the sectors.

“Sports and entertainment are thriving industries in the world today and that is where a lot of people get exposure, especially across boundaries.

“These two are sectors that do not recognise boundaries; they are not sectors that are bound by borders.

“To drive any message today, it spreads wide and quickly with sport and entertainment.

“I believe these are two things that youths are actively engaged in, so foreign policies driven on the back of sports and entertainment is a welcome idea.’’

He recalled government’s pledge to make Nigeria’s foreign policy reflect the feats attained in the sports and entertainment industries to advance the nation’s potentials globally.

He said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, had made the promise in Abuja during the Maiden Annual Foreign Service Public Lecture, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Aina, however, commended government for the steps it had so far taken in addressing the issues.

He further appealed to government to put measures in place to ensure the effective implementation of the policy. (NAN)
