THE Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) on Monday in Abuja said 10 countries have indicated interest to participate in the 2019 upcoming World Taekwondo-sanctioned Nigeria International Open.

The NTF Technical Director, Chika Chukwumerije, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that seven out of the ten countries have completed their online registration while three were yet to register online.

According to him, with Togo’s entry, confirmed number of participating countries now stands at seven.

“Niger Republic, Senegal and Mali have confirmed their attendance and sent me their names manually, but I need them to complete their online registration on the world Taekwondo portal.

“I have informed them that they need to do it the proper way, so I am waiting for them,’’ he said.

Chukwumerije said that the federation has extended the ongoing registration by seven days to give opportunity to more athletes to register.

NAN report that the federation had early fixed the deadline for registration for the upcoming World Taekwondo-sanctioned Nigeria International Open on Jan. 20 but extended it by seven days to Jan. 29.

“Registration deadline for Nigeria Taekwondo International Open has been shifted by seven days to Jan. 29 by popular request.

“This is to allow athletes who have registered `Offline’ to complete their online registration on the World Taekwondo Registration Portal.

“Over 45 athletes from Nigeria, USA, DR Congo, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Cameroon have completed their online registration but 63 athletes registration are pending offline,’’ he said. (NAN)
