Okpala’s Quick Silver FC shops for foundation players

FORMER Super Eagles Assistant Coach and an Ace Nigerian football star, Sylvanus Okpala, on Monday commenced screening for players that would form the new squad for Quick Silver FC.

Okpala, popularly known as Quick Silver in his playing days, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that the screening which began on Monday at Rojenny Stadium, Oba, near Onitsha was for players in Anambra and would end on Aug. 17.

He said the screening would also hold in Enugu and Abia at yet-to-be-determined dates and venues.

The former Super Eagles assistant coach said he formed the club as part of giving back to the society having attained fame and fortune through sports and football particularly.

He said he was inviting talented footballers between 16 and 23 years whom he would transform to potential world stars.

Okpala said the qualities that he would be looking out for include skill, speed, and aggressiveness to disposes opponent, strength and fitness.

“Quick Silver FC will commence the screening of players that will be part of the take-off of the club.

“We expect players between 16 and 23 years to join us at Rojenny Stadium Oba from Monday to Friday, they are not expected to pay any money, let them come and display their skills.

“I have been a player all my life, staring from 1978 when I captained the Flying Eagles, then Junior Eagles and Green Eagles both as a secondary school student and also Rangers International of Enugu player.

“I have also garnered training experience from far and wide, so I will inject my football philosophy into Quick Silver FC and soon we shall take Nigeria football scene by storm.

“I want give back to the game and society that I benefited so much from, I want to build a new generation of players that can re-enact the type of ball skills of our time,” he said.
