THE Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) has solicited for government and private sector support to ensure the country’s participation in the Olympics Africa qualifiers in South Africa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Baseball and Softball teams are already in camp preparing for the qualifiers scheduled for May 6 to May 10.

The NBSA Publicity Secretary, Victoria Shodipo, told NAN on Wednesday that all effort to raise fund for the teams’ participation had not yielded any positive result.

Shodipe said that the body was running out of time to make all necessary arrangement for their participation.

“We are making a passionate plea to the government and private organisations to support NBSA for the Olympics Africa Qualifiers coming up in South Africa.

“Our teams are among the few countries in Africa that have qualified to participate in the qualifiers but the paucity of funds is a major problem.

“We have approached both government and private organisations but nothing is forthcoming, and we are really running out of time, we need support to be part of the qualifiers,” she said.

NAN also reports that baseball and softball are making a comeback to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics having been both eliminated at the end of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. (NAN)
