BARELY three months after it was inaugurated, the score board mounted at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, has collapsed.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 7: 33 pm on Monday during a heavy wind that led to the collapse of the score board.

It may be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday, November 19, 2018, inaugurated the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, urging Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to effectively utilise the facility.

An eye witness said of the collapse, “I was just at the opposite of the stadium when I suddenly heard a sound.

“I thought it was the building from the top of the stadium and I discovered that it was the score board that fell during that heavy wind. But we thank God that nobody was injured.”

Reacting to the development, the Delta State Government noted that the heavy wind predicted across the country by NiMet caused the collapse of the score board.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, who stated this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Delta State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, said the score board destroyed part of the stadium but that no life was lost.

He explained that the damaged part of the complex would be fixed by the contractor as the project has not been handed over to the state government. – Punch
