Zenith Bank Women Basketball League: First Bank to face Dolphins in final match

ZENITH Bank Women’s Basketball League defending champions, First Bank of Lagos, will face city rivals Dolphins in the final match of the 2018 competition.

First Bank who are seeking their ninth championship trophy beat Customs of Lagos 73-44 on Tuesday to berth in this year’s national finals.

The “Elephant Girls’’ dominated three quarters of their game with 19-14 23-10 and 14-10 wins, drawing 18-18 in the second quarter.

Nkechi Akashili dropped 20 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds while Okoro Ifunanya came from the bench to contribute 14 points and 5 rebounds.

In the other semi-final game, Dolphins who were champions in the 2014 edition crushed the young MFM side 57-44 to reach the final.

Bintu Badmus who played 32 minutes for Dolphins contributed 19 points, 2 assists and 9 rebounds to aid her team’s progress.

Similarly, Dolphins’ Fumnanya Ijeh who was recently invited to the senior women’s team preparing for the FIBA Africa 3×3 Cup of Nations also shot 10 points and 5 assists.

MFM who were undone by inexperience lost out of a possible place in the final and will now face Customs in the third-place play-off game at 12 noon on Wednesday.

Dolphins will face First Bank at 2 p.m. in the final match.

First Bank and Dolphins, by qualifying for the final, will also represent Nigeria in the 2018 FIBA Africa Women Club Championship which will hold in Republic of Benin
