THE Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, has warned that there would be storms, thunder and low visibility as this year’s rainy season comes to an end. The agency said the 2015 rainy season is gradually receding and will come to an end in the far northern states of the country by late October and in most parts of the middle belt states by late November.

It added that the most southern parts of the country would however, continue to experience rains till the third week of December. According to NIMET, during this period, storms are expected to develop and would present as thunder with moderate heavy rains and at times accompanied by strong surface winds of value up to (50 Knots) 100 Km/h. It noted that places especially over the middle belt and southern parts of the country are expected to be affected.

These stormy rains would gradually recede to the coastal parts of the country and would last into the third week of December, 2015. NIMET therefore advised the general public to avoid outdoor activities during this stormy weather as the strong winds may in some occasions uproot trees, damage electric poles and affect building roof tops, among others. “NIMET will continue to monitor the weather and climate conditions as they unfold and will keep the general public informed regularly,” the agency said.
