SWAN President charges journalists on unity, professionalism

THE President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Isaiah Benjamin, has called for unity and professionalism among sports writers in Nigeria.
Benjamin made the call at the National full council meeting of SWAN on Thursday in Kano.
He said that unity and common purpose by SWAN members would take the association to the desired new level.
The president, who highlighted the importance of holding the full council meeting, said the event would promote unity and integrate the development of sports in the country.
Benjamin reiterated the association’s readiness to work with other stakeholders to ensure that sports was taken to the next level.
Earlier, the minister of sports development, Sen. John Owan-Enoh, described sports development as one of the cardinal priorities of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Owan-Enoh represented by ministry’s Zonal coordinator, Northwest, Tukur Danmalam, said no stone would be left unturned in the realisation of the administration’s objective.
According to him, the full council meeting was attended by 33 state chairmen, National Executive Committee members and past presidents of the association.
The Minister commended SWAN for organising the meeting and urged them to dwell more on overall sports development.
Highlights of the event were the awards ceremony where eminent personalities and sport stakeholders were conferred with merit awards.
The awardees included; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, Senator Kawu Sumaila, Chairman Senate Committee on Sports, the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye and Alhaji Isiyaku Tofa among others.
Tofa, on behalf of the awardees, thanked the association for finding them worthy of the award, adding that they would continually support SWAN.(NAN)
