PROFESSOR Akpan Ekpo, a former vice chancellor of the University of Uyo, has called on Mohammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria, to be the first recipient of the Covid-19 vaccine when it finally arrive the country, in order to instill confidence in the populace to also take it. Ekpo insisted that by doing so, Nigerians of all works of life, will be ready to take the required doses as expected of them.

Ekpo also advised that the president should also insist that his ministers and other top government officials take the required dosage of the covid-19 vaccine.

It will be recalled that Faisal Shuaib, the executive director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, had said that that Nigeria would be receiving the initial 100,000 dioses of covid-19 vaccine mid January.

He also stated that the government has developed a comprehensive deployment plan on how to deploy these vaccines in phases, with an aim to cover up to 70 percent of the population just to ensure a stop to the transmission of the virus. Despite lofty government plans, many Nigerians are afraid of the vaccine because of stories mostly circulated in the social about the adverse effect of the vaccines.

The vaccine is allegedly capable of changing gene of human beings and also cause infertility. There has been stories of doctors and health workers who refused to take the vaccines abroad because of the adverse effect.

Realnews reports that other major concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine as stated in a letter a group of concerned doctors wrote to African Union noted that “The mRNA Vaccines Could Cause Infertility in African Women. “The vaccinations are expected to produce antibodies against spike proteins of SARS-CoV-2. However, spike proteins also contain syncytin-homologous proteins, which are essential for the formation of the placenta in humans. It must be absolutely ruled out that, a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 could trigger an immune reaction against syncytin-1, as otherwise infertility of indefinite duration could result in vaccinated women.

“The protein Syncytin forms the envelope coat of the virus and shares similar characteristics with the proteins in the human placenta. It is plausible that antibodies against this Syncytin protein will also attack the human placenta causing miscarriages in African women of child-bearing age. The scientific description is given in an article by Sha Mi et al., titled “Syncytin is a captive retroviral envelope protein involved in human placentalmorphogenesis” published in Nature 2000 Feb 17;403(6771):785-9. doi: 10.1038/35001608…”

The document stated that: “It is plausible that, the new mRNA corona virus vaccines for Africa will likely cause immune cells to attack placenta cells, causing female infertility, miscarriage or birth defects in Africans. No one can at this time give any assurance that this possibility does not exist since it has never been tested. “We cannot afford to subject the African population as guinea pigs for the pharmaceutical industry. We are not sure that the type and constituents of the mRNA vaccines given in USA and Europe are exactly the same as that to be given in Africa. If they were the same, Africa would not have 270 million doses, while Europe and UK struggle to obtain sufficient amounts in this era of Vaccine Nationalism. The only reason for the exception is that, we are not talking on the same terms about the same vaccine. Some COVID-19 medications have been marked NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION IN USA, CANADA OR EUROPE! (See Attached).

“It has been the desired aim of the key sponsors of the mRNA vaccines to depopulate Africa! This is their opportunity NOW!” It was in a bid to overcome the fear the masses have about the vaccine that Professor Ekpo gave the advice. He told Realnews that the government’s plan looks good, however, Nigerians are still sceptical about the deadliness of coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic.

“So, it is important to raise public awareness. Government at all levels should wage campaign like political rallies to educate the people; in the villages use town criers and the existing social capital to drive home the message. Furthermore, it is important to enforce existing protocols.

“But once the vaccine is made available, the president, his cabinet and other senior officials should take the vaccine to demonstrate the safety. The same should be repeated at the state and local government levels. This would instil confidence in most people to take the vaccine.”

Ekpo added that he accepts that covid-19 is dangerous just like malaria and cholera. However, he wished experts would discover a vaccine for Malaria which claims the lives of millions of Africans every year.
