THE Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has expressed its sadness on the death of Onukaba Adinoyi-Ojo, a veteran journalist, who died on Monday, March 6 and had since been buried according to Islamic injunctions. He was killed while trying to escape from armed robbers on his way home from Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In a statement signed by Shuaibu Usman Leman, national secretary of the union, said: “The NUJ extends its condolences to his immediate family, the journalism family and his political associates for this great loss.”

Adinoyi-Ojo was one time managing director of Daily Times and senior special adviser in the Presidency.

“This sad event,” the NUJ said, “has yet again deprived Nigeria of one of its illustrious journalists and we pray to God to grant the deceased eternal rest. He was a rare gem, an impeccable character and role model who stood and fought for the profession of journalism. Our consolation was that he fought a good fight, was a well disciplined and thorough professional who struggled to excel in all his endeavours.

“As a committed professional he was warm, friendly and a believer in compliance with the ethics of the profession. He will be missed by all.”
