A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced two tricycle riders, Zaharadeem Haruna and Nasiru Abdullahi, to seven months’ imprisonment for trespassing into a house and attempting to steal.

The Judge, Saminu Suleiman, however, gave  the convicts an option of N15,000 fine, each.

Haruna, 18, and Abdullahi, 25, both of Tipper Garage Gwarinpa, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, criminal trespass and attempted theft.

They pleaded for leniency.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that Insp Salisu Sani of Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the case at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Jan. 2

Ogada said that, on the same date, at 3. a.m., while the complainant was on patrol on 7 Ave., Gwarinpa, he apprehended the convicts as they trespassed into a compound through the fence.

He said that the convicts trespassed into the compound in Gwarinpa with the intention to steal iron rods, but were caught.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convicts made confessional statements.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 75, 348 and 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
