NIGERIA rallied from the brink of defeat on Wednesday to win 3-2 against Cameroon at the 2018 Under-21 Boys Africa Volleyball Nations Cup in Abuja.
They were 10 points away from losing their opening game as the competition got underway at the Abuja National Stadium, but a spirited performance saw them completing a grand comeback.
In spite of leading on many occasions, the Nigerian side lost the opening two sets 24-26 and 23-25.
But, urged on by the small band of vociferous home crowd, they stormed back to win the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-16.
After restoring hope, the Nigerian team soon dampened their fans’ morale by quickly going 0-5 behind in the rubber fifth set.
However, an inspiring comeback saw the Nigerian side storming back to lead all the way to a 15-9 win.
Earlier in the day at the competition, Morocco beat Chad in three straight sets to take a commanding lead in their group.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four other teams are in the competition which ends next Wednesday, with four matches being played daily.(NAN)
