The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will commence the distribution of Permanent voters cards, PVCs, in Anambra West Local Government Area of the state.

The PVC distribution, which commenced on Tuesday, November 6, would be rounded off on Nov. 12.

This was announced by Victor Oko, the INEC electoral officer Anambra West LGA, during stakeholders meeting at Umueze Anam Town Hall.

Oko stressed that the distribution of these cards, which could have commenced before now was delayed because of the floodwaters that ravaged virtually the communities in the area

The INEC officer said that during the collection period which would be at the ward level, there would be provision for claims and objections.

“INEC during this period will commence distribution of voters’ cards, secondly provision for claims and objections for those registered in 2017.

“Claims in the sense that, if there is mistake in your names or date of births, it will be corrected.

“Objections on the other hand means that if someone registered is no longer alive, but there is an evidence that he/she is dead, that will help INEC to have authentic register for Anambra West,’’ he added.

Oko noted that due to the difficult terrain of the area, special provisions have been installed to tackle it, especially those staying in various holding centres.

He emphasised that the INEC had engaged the services of no fewer than 10 trained Corps members with other INEC staff to ensure that the cards get to their original owners.

The INEC Electoral officer, who said that not less than 2,370 cards would be available for collection in Anambra West, solicited for the support  of all stakeholders in the LGA , toward disseminating information to their people to come within the stipulated period to collect their cards.

Sylvester Okafor, the local chair, thanked INEC and the council Electoral officer Mr Victor Oko for their commitments and selfless services to Ndi Anambra West.

He described the stakeholders meeting as timely, promising to do everything within his powers toward ensuring that Ndi Anambra West come out en masse to collect their cards.

Okafor, then, appealed to other stakeholders to ensure proper mobilisation of their people to that effect.

He also promised to engage the presidents-general, traditional rulers, councillors and other relevant stakeholders as well.

Sylvester Onyeka, the APGA chairman Anambra West, Francis Udoba, his PDP counterpart thanked INEC for the meeting which they said was timely.

Others who commended the INEC are Sylvester Nnalue, APC; Simon Okafor, SDP.

They, then, promised to mobilise their people to come out and collect their PVCs, appealing for the extension of the date by INEC due to the challenging terrain of the area.

The meeting featured questions and answers session from various stakeholders which the INEC Electoral officer Mr victor Oko answered.
