A philanthropist  in Zamfara state, Alhaji Dauda Dare Lawan  has urged Nigerians from the northern part of the country to invest in the media industry.

Lawan made the call while receiving a merit award from the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Gusau.

He said statistics shows that about 65% of media firms in the country are owned by investors from the southern part of the nation.

Lawan also urged northerners to invest in banking.

According to him, both the banking and media sectors  are not just for profit making, but also to  safeguard the interests of the north.

The secretary to the state government,  Professor Abdullahi Shinkafi commended the NUJ for recognising Lawan.

Abdullahi said the award recipient had performed excellently in many areas of development.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NUJ Zamfara state council gave the award to the philanthropist because of his contribution to the development of the state.NAN
