IN A bid to inspire excellence amongst leaders and corporate organisations, Verbatim magazine, a publication of Verbatim News Network has instituted an award ceremony to be called Verbatim-Person-of-the-Year, to celebrate achievers.  For this year, which is the maiden edition, the annual event has been scheduled to hold on February 7, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.

The ceremony would be chaired by Senator Ibrahim Mantu, former deputy senate president. At the event, editors of the magazine will announce names of distinguished Nigerians and organisations that have been chosen for their exemplary services to the nation, in the year 2012. A press release issued by the management of the magazine, explained that a governor, who won the Star award as Person-of the-year, will be announced and presented with a glamour plaque during the ceremony.

According to the release signed by Tobs Agbaegbu, editor-in-chief of the magazine, “Verbatim Person-of-the-Year is meant to select and honour men, women or institution(s) adjudged by Verbatim Editorial Board, with input from a cross section of Nigerians, to have most positively provided good governance, legislation, exemplary service (public and private) and philanthropy, in Nigeria, in a particular year. The project is meant to encourage citizens, (individual and corporate,) to give out their best, in service to their fatherland.” Agbaegbu said that the February 7, event would signal the kickoff of full activities of the media outfit in 2013, especially with its fortnightly publication, Verbatim magazine.
