A large turnout of family members, friends, and the Igbo and Yoruba Communities attended the coronation of Pastor, Dr. Okechukwu Anorue ‘Ezesinachi’ 1 of Igbogbo Baiyeku Kingdom by His Royal Highness, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegu Kasili, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

With his coronation, Anorue, who hails from Mbano in Imo state, is expected to serve as the royal father of all the Igbo-speaking people resident in Igbogbo community.

Ezesinachi 1 of Igbogbo Baiyeku kingdom

Speaking after his coronation, Anorue, praised the Igbogbo people for being peaceful and friendly and assured them that he would promote continuous harmony between the Igbos and the Yorubas in the community. “I will attract professionals and investors, who will be ready to invest in the community and this will be a big achievement because no Eze has been able to do that in the past,” he said.

Anorue, who is also known as ‘Babaloja of Tejuosho Market’, said that he felt honoured and happy to receive the title. “The Igbos in this community should feel free to come to my palace because it’s also theirs.

“We are going to unite everybody in this community to make sure things are done properly. This goes to the Igbos, Yorubas and all other ethnic groups that reside in this peaceful community of Igbogbo Baiyeku in Ikorodu,” he said.

Chike Asiegbu, Chairman, Council of Chiefs of Igbogbo Baiyeku

Chike Asiegbu, Chairman, Council of Chiefs of Igbogbo Baiyeku in Ikorodu, said that it had been a long time since the Igbo community in Igbogbo Baiyeku had a leader to represent them.

“It is, therefore, a welcome development to have someone like Okechukwu Anorue, who has exhibited the character of a true leader to be the Eze.

“We had a leader here but that was a long time ago. During his tenure, we had a lot of issues, between the Igbos, the Yorubas, and himself. The person who called himself our traditional ruler went out to contest for a councillorship position here in Igbogbo Biaeku and I was against it.

“He should have sponsored someone else, which is the right thing to do, now he sees me as his enemy till today because of that. The late Oba of the Igbogbo Kingdom did all he could to settle the aggrieved parties and restore peace, but to no avail,” he said.

“We have been shopping for a leader with these qualities that Eze Okechukwu possess, now we are happy to have found him, he is a man of peace,” he c said.

Cyril Eze, the President General, Igbo speaking community

in the area, said that the newly crowned Eze Ndi-Igbo would be able to ensure a harmonious co-existence between the Igbos and the Yorubas in the Igbogbo community. “I see the new Eze as a builder, who can maintain peace, love, and unity between the Yorubas and the Igbos living here in Igbogbo community.

“His emergence as the new Eze wasn’t by-election or the selection of a few people, he is the choice of the Igbo speaking people in this community. As you can see there are no factions, I was the one who recommended him to the state council at the request of the whole community,” the President General said.

Realnews gathered that the new Igbo leader was chosen and accepted by the community before he was screened at his local government and his state by a committee before his coronation.

The event was witnessed by many dignitaries, including some members of the Yoruba and Igbo Council of Chiefs.
