THE delay in signing the 2013 budget by President Goodluck Jonathan has generated a lot of controversies among Nigerians. Some people are blaming the president for not signing the budget submitted to him by the National Assembly over a month ago. While others believe that there is still time for him and the National Assembly to resolve their differences so that the budget can be signed. Below are what Nigerians think about the delay in the sign of the 2013 budget.
Yahaya Bargaje, Computer Programmer: The government and the legislators should sit down and dialogue. With dialogue, they would be able to reach a consensus.
Ifeanyi Ejiaku, Administrator: The inability of President Goodluck Jonathan to sign the 2013 budget has not helped the economy. Whatever is the difference between the National Assembly and Jonathan, they should resolve it quickly because the present situation does not augur well for the country’s economy.
Charles Diei, Mass Communication Graduate: The budget imbroglio is capable of retarding the growth of the economy. I would advise the National Assembly and the presidency to resolve whatever are their differences so that the budget can be signed.
John Odang, Student: The best for the two is to forget about their personal ego and work towards the good of the country. They should consider the fact that Nigerians need the budget to move forward and forget their differences.
Adekunle Joseph, Accountant: Both the executive and the National Assembly should strictly follow what the constitution states about budgeting so that we can move forward.
Gabriel Okwor, Civil Servant: The presidency and the legislators should try and resolve the issue of 2013 budgeting before the end of this month. In an advanced country, the budget should take effect from the first day of the year, in order to have proper implementation. But here we are still debating on whether to sign the budget or not. For me the best solution now is dialogue. The National Assembly should dialogue with the president for them to resolve this matter.
