THE unending oil theft in the country has become a source of worry to President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration. Nigerians are divided on what he should do the stop the menace in the society. Below are what Nigerians said on the issue.

Charles Ejikeme, Civil Servant: Is oil theft the only problem facing this country? The country is sick and needs urgent attention from the president and his government. I think President Jonathan should create employment for the youths if he wants to stop oil thieves in the country.

Ikechukwu Ogana, Businessman: He should create employment opportunities for the youths, mostly those from the Niger Delta and other oil producing states. In fact, employment opportunities are the solution to all the problems the country is facing today.

Austine Okechukwu, Pastor: He can’t stop it. The youths are suffering mostly in Niger Delta. They don’t have jobs and you want them to stay away from their source of livelihood. My dear, the unemployment rate in this country is alarming. There are graduates of 2004 out there searching for jobs, so there is nothing the president can do unless he creates jobs for the youths.

Godwin Ikenna, Politician: President Jonathan should first of all fight corruption in the oil sector because these oil thieves are being aided by the so-called oil companies and their staff. Secondly, he should extend the amnesty to non-militants in the Niger Delta because they are the people terrorising the country. I believe with these in place, he can stop the menace.

Samuel Ifeanyichukwu, Engineer: President Jonathan should create employment and ensure the speedy passage of the PIB. He should also equip and retrain security agents, like navy and civil defence officials. But most importantly is the PIB, this bill would go a long way in reducing oil theft in the country.

Nnaemeka Ogbonna, Businessman: Employment opportunities are key to the problem. When the youths are jobless, they tend to do anything oil theft inclusive in order to survive. Again, the federal government should stop the idea of ending amnesty in 2015 because it is going to be disastrous in the region and Nigeria in general.
