SOLA Oladepo, Osun Commissioner for Environment, has said that the state government would embark on massive tree planting in schools to protect the classrooms against rainstorms and turbulent winds.
Oladepo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Osogbo that the project was part of the state government’s programme to plant 250,000 trees across the state.
Oladepo said Gov. Gboyega Oyetola had granted approval for the Ministry to commence the tree planting exercise in all the schools in the state.
“We will embark on tree planting in all the schools that have big compound, especially the newly built modern schools to prevent their roof from being damaged or removed by the wind.
“We have identified schools that do not have enough vegetation to protect the buildings from windstorm and by tomorrow(Thursday), we will start the exercise.
“We believe the trees will protect the school buildings from windstorms and it will equally serve as an investment to the state’s economy”, the commissioner said.
