Information commissioner applauds FG over appointment of female as rector, Oko Poly

C DON Adinuba, the Anambra State commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, has hailed the federal government over appointment of Francisca Nwafulugo as the rector, Federal Polytechnic.

“Your appointment is praise-worthy because our Governor, Chief Willie Obiano is gender-sensitive,’’ the commissioner said in a statement in Awka on March 25.

According to him, Obiano remains one of the governors that have also appointed the women folks into many sensitive positions in his government.

A woman for the first time is currently the acting chief judge, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu and Uju Nwogu, another woman as attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, as well as four others as commissioners.

“Your appointment as substantive rector is also remarkable because this is the first time that a female is assuming the headship of the institution at an auspicious time in the history.

“As an engineer, the appointment has ensured that there will be continuity in the smooth running of the one of the foremost polytechnics in Anambra.

“The fact that you went through a competitive examination to emerge as the overall best; we expect you as a first female rector to show zeal and zest in your leadership effort toward a technological breakthrough,’’ he said.

Adinuba noted: “you could not have come at the better time than now that Anambra is blessed with a leader, in Gov. Obiano, that is most committed to achieving break through the industrialisation of the state.

“This one of the institutions set up to lead the charge in the technological advancement of Nigeria.

“We, therefore, expect no less an engineer, that will facilitate breakthroughs in producing graduates equipped with the right skills to take engineering to the next level.’’
