Women Affairs inaugurates Violence Against Persons Prohibition Acts

Ndidi Mezue, the Anambra State commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, has inaugurated the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, VAPP, Act implementation committee at Rule of Law and Anti Corruption, RoLAC, workshop.

The event was held in Awka, at which David Azuka Oformata, the permanent secretary of the ministry, represented the commissioner.

She described Anambra as one of the greatest states in the country, and called for great commitment and passion of all members of the implementation committee in carrying on their work.

Josephine Onah, the Anambra RoLAC project coordinator, in her remarks said the Ministry was the appropriate ministry, where the VAPP Implementation Committee should be domiciled.

The stakeholders that made up VAPP Implementation Coordination Committee includes: NAPTIP, Nigeria Police, National Human Right Commission, National Orientation Agency and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

Others are Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information, Legal and Council, CSOs like FIDA, NBA, Women Action Committee, My Child My Care Initiative (Intacom Africa) and the Catholic Women Organization, WACOL.

The rest are CBO Hope Giver Initiative, Faith-Based – JDPC, Media – ABS, Orient Daily, Traditional Ruling Council, ASATU WING and Children Parliament.
