Haruna Agwoi, the Coordinator, Kuje Primary Healthcare Centre, FCT, says the centre is targeting 28,000 residents for vaccination in the ongoing yellow fever vaccination in the area.

Agwoi made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday at Kuje.

According to him, the vaccination exercise taking place at all public health facilities and other public places was aimed at reducing and eradicating the transmission of the viral disease in the country.

“The age group for vaccination is from nine months to 44 years in line with the strategy for the elimination of yellow fever epidemics by 2026.

“The goal is to reduce the transmission by achieving 95 per cent coverage in implementing states and local government areas.

“The mass campaign is also based on the 2008 risk assessment which identified 20 states and FCT as high risk states.

“We are targeting 28,000 residents for vaccination against yellow fever infection in Kuje,” he said.

However, he urged residents of the area to embrace the ongoing exercise against yellow fever infection.

Agwoi explained that the outreach teams were vaccinating eligible persons in churches, schools and other public institutions to achieve the target. (NAN)
