Governor Willie Obiano has called on Batch ‘C’ Corps members deployed to Anambra State to channel their experiences and knowledge in rendering selfless services to better the state and the country.

Obiano, who was represented by Nkem Okeke, his deputy, made the call at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘C’ orientation course at Umunya.

The orientation course has no fewer than 2,032 corps members, comprising 986 males and 1,046 females.

He called on them to key into the uncommon transformation of the state, explaining that Anambra was strategically transiting from massive infrastructure development to human capital development.

“Contribute your quota in complementing the development of the state and the nation at large,’’ he urged.

Describing the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, as an indispensable tool for human, youth mobilisation, national integration and unity, Obiano enjoined them to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, training seriously.

He added: “SAED  has the potential to make you self-employed and wealth creators, which is in line with the various poverty reduction initiatives of both the federal and state governments.’’

He reassured them of adequate welfare and security, promising that the permanent orientation camp at Umuawulu /Mbaukwu would be completed for the next batch to use in the upcoming year.

Earlier, Bonaventure Enemali, commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, and chairman, the NYSC Governing Board, commended the numerous contributions of the NYSC scheme to growth of the society.

Enemali hailed the scheme’s contributions in education, infrastructure, agriculture, health sectors and community development projects.

He, then, urged corps members to bond and understand the culture of their host communities as well as the diversity of the different ethnic groups in Nigeria.

The commissioner pointed out that records of corps member’s participation and performance in camp would be considered for state honours and award selection.

He noted that the board would not tolerate any unruly behaviour, such as cultism, sneaking out of camp and keeping late nights, urging them to religiously obey all camp rules and regulations.

Kehinde Aremu, the Anambra State coordinator NYSC, said, “the scheme serves as reservoir of manpower and energies for national development.

“NYSC has continued to redefine its fundamentals to mould and equip graduates youths for the task of nation building.

“Support the human capital development aspiration of Gov. Obiano administration.

“An appreciable percentage of the corps members will be posted to rural areas to complement state government’s effort at sustaining educational and health facilities established for rural dwellers by bridging the manpower gap.’’

The coordinator thanked the governor for his support and prompt release of funding to meet some of the needs of the scheme and for providing befitting office accommodation as administrative headquarters for the scheme.

Aremu also noted: “Anambra State pays the highest allowance to corps members and still remains the most exciting place to serve in Nigeria.’’

Administration of Oath of Allegiance by the chief judge of Anambra State, the Man ‘O’ War demonstration and presentation of symbol of love gift by the Batch ‘C’ corps members to the governor featured at the occasion.
