The Director, National Issue Christian Association of Nigeria, North-East Zone, Rev. Mike Agbon, has enjoined all Christian youths to show interest in social change and national development.

Agbon, who was also the former Chaplain of Adamawa State Government House, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that Christians should be involved in the nation’s political process and take part in the forthcoming general elections.

Agbon enjoined the youth not to give loose in politics, while encouraging them to also involved.

The cleric called on all Christian leaders to mobilise the youth in their churches, to ensure that all eligible voters had their PVCs and were ready to vote.

“All Christian leaders should continue from now until the general elections to speak to their congregation, especially the youth, to vote the candidates of their choice come 2019.

“Candidates who will ensure our rights are protected.

“Look out for credible candidates that will create a new and better Nigeria,” he stated.

According to him, the North-East region has witnessed several crises; such as burning of churches and killing of Christians and innocent Nigerians by insurgents.

Agbon said that to put an end to the menace, there was need for the Church to remain united and vote for credible candidates.

He enjoined Christians in Nigeria to be prepared with their PVCs, remain united as a body under Christ Jesus and speak with one voice.

He, however, advocated for lectures, seminars to be conducted to create political awareness that would guarantee successful elections, where qualified candidates would be elected.

Speaking on vote buying, the cleric advocated for youths to have the knowledge of the danger inherent in selling their votes, and it would endanger their future and generations to come.

“Vote buying endangers not only the electoral process but also the entire democratic process

“Where the choice of a candidate is no longer based on programmes and party manifesto but on the highest bidder, no matter how  incompetent that highest bidder may be.

“Let them know that by this act they will mortgage their future and that of generations yet unborn,” he explained.

Agbon said that the Federal Government’s approach to vote buying should be holistic, and the existing laws on electoral malpractices should be enforced. (NAN)
