SUNDAY Nwegbe, Electoral Officer, Aguata Local Government Area, LGA, has vowed that “votes must count during the upcoming General Elections in 2019.

“Since votes counted in the November 18, 2017, gubernatorial election in Anambra, it will again count in 2019 elections,’’ Nwegbe said during interactive session with political stakeholders in Aguata.

The stakeholders are presidents-general, women leaders of 14 communities in Aguata, persons with disabilities and councillors.

The meeting was held over the voter registration and collection of permanent voters card at the Aguata Council Hall.

“People should not shy away from registering and collecting their voters cards. They should not go with notions that votes will not count, because votes must count in elections in Aguata LG under my watch,’’ he vowed.

The electoral officer pleaded with stakeholders to go and sensitise their people on importance of voter registration and collection of their voter’s cards.

Nwegbe expressed disappointment at about 9,000 PVCs that were not collected.

He noted that 500 persons who applied for transfer had yet to show up for collection of their PVCs.

He, however, called on politicians in the local government to mobilise the electorate in their localities, yet to register, to do so to avoid being disfranchised.

“Any electorate who wants to be voted for, must register as well collect their voter’s card,’’ Nwegbe emphasised.

Samuel Ezeofor, Anglican Bishop of Ekwulobia, represented by Rev. John Okonkwo said that collaboration with the church, schools, markets, town unions would help to achieve wider sensitisation.
