BISHOP Moses Ekpa of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ifako, a suburb of Lagos, on Wednesday said that massive youth empowerment is the best way to secure the future of Nigeria.

The Bishop said this at the opening of a two-day youth conference organised by the Ifako and Ogba wards of the church with the theme: ` `Finding Peace in Christ’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 200 youths including members and non members of the church were participating in the conference.

Ekpa urged government at all levels, religious leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to help in empowering the youth to secure the future of Nigeria.

According to him, any nation that fails to care for its youths is jeopardizing its future.

” The situation of our youths is a particular concern at this time.

“It was important for policy makers and parents to understand that youths are the future of this country, their mindset and creativity should be a major concern to the nation.

“Governments should create an atmosphere that is favourable for the youth to achieve their desired objectives.

“Unfortunately, the society has left the youth without hope, guardianship, mentorship and future aspiration instead of utilising their energy, curiosity, creativity and passion to further develop the nation.

“If youths are well groomed, they will be leaders of tomorrow and we will have a better society and a better country,’’ the cleric said.

Mr Udobong Asuquo, a guest speaker, who spoke on how youth could find peace through the teaching of Christ, said that when the country unites there would be development.

“When there is harmony, unity and togetherness, we can always find peace.

“The country should seek for unity and progress which our founding fathers have all stood for,’’ he said. (NAN)
