THE National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has restated its commitment to ensure the revival and sustenance of voluntary youth clubs across the country.

Bello Shagari, Chairman, Sokoto state chapter of NYCN, stated this during the meeting of the North-West Coalition of Youth groups in Sokoto on Tuesday.

Shagari said that the decision to revive clubs was to map out more strategies to unite youth across the country.

“We strongly believe that revival and sustenance of voluntary youth clubs and organisations such as Boys Scout, Peace Corps, Man ‘O’War, Cadet Club and Girls Brigade among others, will make our unity stronger.

“Moreover, NYCN, being the highest youth body in Nigeria, will continue to focus on internal reforms, national unity, entrepreneurship, agricultural, sports development and youth with disability,” he said.

Shagari said that the council had the ultimate dream to embark on the immediate building of a National Youth Centre in Abuja and later expand to the 36 states of the country.

“This, we believe, will provide many opportunities for the Nigerian youth by giving them a platform for mentorship, to meet and interact.

“Also assist them in their various creative and productive endeavours. Thus, the centres will serve as a place which unites us, and provides us with endless opportunities to create and innovate,’’ he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), report that NYCN unity congress would hold from July 19 to July 23 in Abuja.

NAN reports that Shagari is expected to declare his intention to contest for NYCN President at the forthcoming unity congress of the council. (NAN)
