Prince Charles on Thursday commended young Nigerian entrepreneurs for producing quality products.
The Prince gave the kudos when he interacted with some young Nigerian entrepreneurs in Abuja during his visit to promotes rural livelihood and youth empowerment initiatives in the country.
Charles called for patronage of the products produced by the upcoming entrepreneurs to encourage their innovations, inventions and boost national economy.
He made the commendation during his interaction with some young Nigerian entrepreneurs in Abuja on the third day of his official visit to Nigeria with his wife, Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles.
According to him, the youths have the right potential to be entrepreneurs and employers of labour provided they are adequately motivated, expressing satisfaction with youth endeavours in the country.
He subsequently inspected the various products on display at Cilantro Restaurant in Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mrs Yop Tok, an inventor of hungry rice processing machine, explained that she and her husband developed the machine to facilitate elimination of drudgery from the cereal.
“With support from UKaid, we were able to develop this processing machine to eliminate manual means of processing acha (hungry rice).
“What takes up to two weeks to produce, using manual means, now takes less than four days to get it ready.
“It is also centred at delivering an end product that is superior in quality, sand-free cereal, more job creation and attainment of self-reliance,’’ she said.
Also, Mrs Nneka Akwunwa, Sanitation Coordinator, WaterAid, noted that the organisation had produced plastic toilets to eliminate the issue of lack of toilets in some homes.
“We conducted a survey in some rural communities in 2014 and we discovered that two out of four houses do not have clean toilets.
“We thought of what could be affordable and safe for everyone to use and we developed the plastic toilets which is better than the pit toilets.
“Presently, we have been able to distribute the product to Ekiti, Enugu, Bauchi, Jigawa, Plateau and Kebbi States.
“We hope to engage more Nigerian youths in the production as we spread our distribution to other states,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prince also met with producers of frozen chickens, rural farmers, livestock dealers and representatives of the National Veterinary Institute of Nigeria, Vom, Plateau.
The Prince of Wales and his wife since their arrival in the country on a three-day visit had met with different groups including traditional leaders, Nigerian authors, women and youth ambassadors for peace beside laying a wreath at the Commonwealth War Cemetery. (NAN)
