JOHN Awoyi, a youth leader in Bwari Area Council of FCT, has stressed the need for youths to shun actions that can cause disharmony in their daily undertakings.

Awoyi, who spoke in Bwari on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), advised youths not to engage in violence, before, during and after the elections.

He said that his leadership would use all forms of religious and social means to preach against activities that would make youths pawns in the hands of selfish politicians.

‘‘We are reaching out to the youths through the Churches and Mosques, including the market places, we would ensure that we disseminate the message on daily basis.

‘‘Our aim as leaders should focus on educating them on the need to avoid being used, but to exercise their powers to vote as citizens of the country.

‘‘We must continue to reiterate the need to shun violence at all costs because where there is violence, there will be no peace and where there is no peace, there won’t be development.

‘‘We urge other associations to do the needful and join us in this campaign,’’ he said.

The youth leader said that his group had reached out to all traditional rulers in the area to sensitse their subjects on the need to shun violence before, during and after elections.

He urged youths to prepare themselves for leadership positions by imbibing traits that would lift them as responsible citizens of the country.

‘‘We want them to vote and be voted for.

‘‘They should vote for those who would develop the country; they should also get involved in aspirations that would bring about the change we desire,’’ he said. (NAN)
