Youths of Anambra East urged to provide security for Govt projects

YOUTHS in Anambra East Local Government Area have been advised to take responsibility for providing security to ongoing International Airport City Project at Umueri to ensure its effective delivery.

They were also advised to restrain people from causing harm that could disrupt the pace of work at the site.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, who gave the charge, said the essence was to ensure speedy delivery of the international Airport City within the stipulated 3-year period for its completion.

Obiano, who was speaking during APGA campaign rally at Otuocha, Anambra East LGA, observed that the city would transform the state economically, by creating many direct and indirect jobs for youths and boost Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of the state.

He urged the people to embrace the opportunity and enrol in the study of Chinese language in higher institutions, saying the state government would take responsibility for the first set of candidates for the 3-year course.

The governor while promising to continue with his developmental stride, pointed out that work is ongoing on the 7-km road linking Igbariam Community, which would also strengthen evacuation of farm produce when completed.

Chinedu Obidigwe, the special adviser to the governor on Political Matters, said the present administration had empowered various youths, a gesture that had reduced crime in the state.

According to him, Obiano is the hope of the hopeless.

“He has transformed the mentality of youth in the state. Youths are conscious of their action now. We don’t want politicians to use us as thugs to cause political violence.

“We have warned political party that may have plans to distort the election to desist from such thoughts as we will not allow our vote to be manipulated.’’

Obidigwe added: “this is the first time a government is initiating, N20 Million Community Choose Your Project Initiative, for the good of the people.

“Through this project, many communities have experienced governance at the grassroots. They have felt the presence of state government projects and also engaged many youths.

“It is our civic responsibility to deliver Obiano. A vote for Obiano is a vote for good governance and promotion of people’s welfare,’’ Obidigwe said.

Obinna Emenaka, the member representing Anambra East in the Anambra State House of Assembly, described Obiano as the most credible candidate that could positively pilot affairs of the state.

Bianca Ojukwu, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, called on Igbo to respect the wishes of her late husband, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who had been championing the unity of Igbo.

Tony Oji, the special adviser to Obiano on Finance, said that the dreams of the present administration had been to make the state financially viable, without depending on federal government allocation.

Oli noted that the lofty ideals of the Obiano administration had attracted influx of investors and unending opportunities for the youths.

He called on stakeholders in the state and individuals to consider the welfare of the state and set aside their egocentric interest for peaceful development of Anambra.
