Zamfara anti-thuggery agency recommits to crime prevention

THE Zamfara Government Anti-thuggery Agency on Friday reiterated commitment in complementing security agencies in crime prevention in the state.

The Commandant, Mr Bello Bakyasuwa, stated this in Gusau while receiving Gallantry Performance Award from an NGO, Centre for Grassroots Development and Crime Prevention, Abuja Chapter, in conjunction with Independent Publishers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Bello Matawalle had recently signed the law establishing the.agemcy mandated to complement security agencies in crime prevention in the state.

Bakyasuwa said the pioneer agency was established by Matawalle with to help in tackling thuggery, drugs abuse and other related crimes in the state.

“I am happy to receive this award,
and I dedicate it to Gov. Bello Matawalle for his forsight of establishing the agency,” he added.

According to Bakyasuwa, the agency had since its esbalishment a year ago drastically reduced activities of thuggery, armed robbery, phone snatching and other related offences.

Speaking while presenting the award, the Secretary of the centre, Mr Emmanuel Peter, said it was based on the agency’s track records in crime prevention.

“We are presenting this award to the Commandant, Mr Bakyasuwa for his efforts and contribution to sustainable peace and stability in state.

“As an NGO, our major responsibility is to monitor the activities of individuals, government and private organisations who have done well in discharging their duties.

“This is aimed at encouraging the commandant and operatives of the agency to do more in
curbing  crimes in the state,” Peter said. (NAN)
