David Adamu Baikie, educationist, administrator and professor, 84, October 2. Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, he was educated at Holy Trinity School, Kano, 1941-1943; Holy Trinity School, Lokoja, Kogi State, 1944-1945; CMS Middle School, Wusasa, Zaria, 1946-1948; St Peter’s College, Zaria, 1949-1950; Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria, 1957-1962; Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA, 1962-1964, and 1967-1969. He was a primary school teacher in Gusau and later Zaria; assistant headmaster, 1951-1952; headmaster, 1953-1957; assistant lecturer, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, 1964-1966; lecturer, 1967-1970; dean, faculty of education, ABU, Zaria, 1971-1974; professor of education, ABU, Zaria, 1971-1978; appointed vice chancellor, University of Benin, 1978-1985 and vice-chancellor, University of Maseru, Roma Lesotho, 1986. Baikie became the pioneer vice-chancellor, Nassarawa State University, Keffi, before he retired.
