IBRAHIM Idris, inspector general of Police, IGP, on Thursday, August 3, said more than 1000 suspected kidnappers are currently being detained at the various police formations across the country.
This is even as he appealed to the Federal Government to establish special court to try kidnapping suspects to bring about speedy trial of those already in police custody.
The IGP, who is on a two-day working visit to Lagos, made this disclosure at the Palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu.
The IGP while fielding questions from journalists on the state of insecurity across the nation said additional 88 area commands will be created to boost operational efficiency.
Ibrahim said they have already written to the Police Service Commission, PSC, and are awaiting approval to kick off.
Responding, Akiolu said no corrupt leader will lead Nigeria again, adding that he hopes President Muhammadu Buhari will soon return to Nigeria hale and hearty.
