The 107 entries, which were officially handed over to the panel of judges at a ceremony in Lagos on Thursday, May 12, 2022, would compete for the $100,000 grand prize.

The members of the panel include, Prof Barth Nnaji, a former minister of science and technology and a former minister of power, Prof. Baba Yusuf Abubakar, Prof. Christian Ugwu Agbo, Nike Akande and Mohammed Magaji.

“This is because our vision of helping to build a better Nigeria rests on promoting excellence everywhere,” she said.

She also thanked everyone, who have helped in ensuring that the prize continued to grow, including those in the media who have continued to publicize the yearly event.

“This as you might know as most of you have been reporting the prizes, as our reason for starting the Nigeria prizes for literature, science and literary criticism and in this journey of about 15 years, we have been privileged to have the support of distinguished Nigerians such as members of the advisory body for the prizes and as judges .

“However, all the good work you do and the critical output of each year’s cycle will not be known without the capable gentlemen and ladies that are here in this room. Since its inception you’ve been worthy partners of this projects

“The Nigeria prize for Science celebrates excellence in scientific breakthroughs and in all scientists from anywhere in the world who help find solutions to local or a Nigerian problem,” she said.

It will be recalled that in 2021, no winner emerged to claim the $100,000 prize for Science due to lack of excellence in the innovations submitted.
