13th African Games: Organisers fix accreditation challenge for participating countries
Sports
THE problems associated with media accreditation for the 13th African Games may be resolved while on the ground in Ghana.
The organizers have announced a reduction in the number of accreditations allowed for each participating country.
The spokesman of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Tony Nezianya, in a statement released in Lagos, quotes the 2-man Nigeria delegates who were informed at a Technical meeting in Accra, that Nigeria would be entitled to a press officer and four other journalists, while some other countries would have two each.
In response to this challenging situation, the NOC has decided to recourse to regional balancing in allotting limited accreditations to ensure fairness.
The committee would protest the effect but we are mindful that the hosts have certain rights too.
Media participation has been a contentious issue in the past, but the NOC would still be working with the organizers to address these concerns leading up to the Games.
The games will take place from March 8 to March 23, 2024, in Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. This is the first time the Games are being held in multiple cities.
