14-year-old wins Hiers Essay Championship

FOURTEEN-year-old JS3 student, Master Kentimfon Ndanyongmong, has emerged the overall winner of the 2023 Heirs Life Essay Championship.
Ndanyongmong is a student of Beulah International School in Akwa Ibom.
The Managing Director of Heirs Life Assurance Ltd., Mr Niyi Onifade, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.
Onifade said that the winner would be given a grand prize of two million Naira in scholarship while Beulah International School would get N500,000 worth of books and educational materials.
According to him, Master Samuel John of Knightdale Middle College, Lagos, and Miss Ameenah Jimeta of Prime College, Kano, are respectively the first and second runners-up of the championship.
He said that the first and second runners-up would get N150,000 and N100,000, respectively, in scholarship.
The managing director said that more than 5,000 entries were submitted for the competition – the second edition of the annual championship.
“Participants were tasked to draft a 500-word essay on the topic: ‘My Dream Career’.
“Heirs Life commissioned a committee of specialists led by a professor of English Language to assess and grade all entries.
“The firm also conducted interviews, in collaboration with the grading committee, with shortlisted participants, to ensure originality of the submissions,” he said.
Onifade said that Heirs Insurance Group believed in securing more than just finances.
He said that the essay championship demonstrated the company’s commitment to nurturing intellectual and creative capacities of the youth.
According to him, the competition aims at inspiring the next generation to shape a brighter future.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Heirs Life Essay Championship is an initiative of Heirs Life Assurance, which is a member of Heirs Insurance Group.
Heirs Insurance Group is the insurance subsidiary of Heirs Holdings, a pan-African investment company .(NAN)
