NO fewer than  168,000 households in Zamfara would  benefit from the food items as palliatives donated by Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari (APC, Zamfara West) to cushion the  effects of fuel subsidy removal.

The Chairman of the  distribution committee  Alhaji Lawal Liman disclosed this on Wednesday in Talata-Mafara  after inaugurating the 25 member  committee.

Liman who is the former All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the state said the gesture is aimed at reducing the economic hardship faced by the citizens of the state.

He further said the gesture is for the vulnerable groups, individuals and households irrespective of political, religious or tribal affiliations.

According to him, the beneficiaries include vulnerable households, needy, widows, divorcees and orphans among others.

He noted that a total of 12,000 vulnerable households were selected to benefit from the gesture from each of the 14 local government areas of the state.

“In each of the 147 political wards across the state, a seven-man committee was constituted for the distribution exercise at wards level.

“A minimum of 1000 beneficiaries have already been selected from each of the 147 wards across the state.

“The gesture is in additional to the ongoing distribution of 13 trucks of maize donated by the lawmaker to vulnerable households in Talata-Mafara town”, Liman explained.

He charged members of the distribution committee on fairness, accountability and transparency.

“Each member of the distribution committee at ward or local government level must be persons of proven integrity”, he added. (NAN)
