UGANDA has repatriated 17 Ethiopian girls rescued from human trafficking in the capital Kampala.
Simon Mundeyi, spokesperson for ministry of internal affairs of Uganda, told reporters that Ugandan officials handed over the girls to Ethiopian immigration officers at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on Monday.
“They were removed from the country legally and were accompanied by our immigration officers. Human Trafficking is a transnational crime that we invite everyone to fight,” Mundeyi said at the weekly security press briefing.
In recent years, Uganda has been used as a transit route by human traffickers, according to the immigration department.
