18 candidates to participate in governorship election in Katsina State – REC

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says 18 candidates are expected to participate in the forthcoming governorship election in Katsina State on March 9.

The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Ibrahim Jibril Zarewa, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen on Wednesday in Katsina.

According to him, 316 candidates are also contesting for State House of Assembly election across the 34 local government areas of the state on the upcoming elections.

Zarewa said that the commission had commenced distribution of sensitive materials to the 34 local government areas in the state.

“We are now moving sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria to the 34 local government areas of the state.

“We have all the ballot papers, results sheets and other necessary materials to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise’’, he said.

He explained that after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, INEC reviewed its performance with a view to improving during the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections.

Zarewa said that INEC had configured Card Readers to read March 9.

He assured that elections would commence in good time and would be free and fair. (NAN)
